Comes down to feminized pedagogy, at least with boys, that rough-play is not to be tolerated in our schools.. Back in the day, I agree with you, you took that bully on, after school..
We gave our two kids self-confidence by enrolling them in Martial Arts.. provided both of them the ability to stand up to bullies without actually resorting to violence.
Two things made me come to this conclusion. At a High school reunion a fellow who I can see, would have been bullied. He had transferred to our school and the teacher , with whom he now commuted 45 minutes each way, approached me and said “Mike will get you introduced etc..” I forget the incident but apparently someone had grabebd him in a head lock a week later. I ran over, grabbed the fellow and said “Hey don’t pick on my classmates. ( Padssive intervention) . I was on the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus. I joined the two incidents and I have been proposing “Peacekeeping Teams” of students who would have a visible presence, UN Blue hats perhaps. At the school behind our houser there may be 3 teachers in the yard for several hundred students. In fact my grown daughtger told me she was bullied frequently at this school. The Peacekeepers would be selected by the schoo, elected and volunteer. Trained by coucillors, psychologists, Police forces and school officials according to a well deisgned program. Kids I speak with, like the idea. Policiticans and school officials tell me “Oh we are making new laws. ” And that was a year ago, tell that to the BC teen and the many still bullied. As to cyber bullying…A trained group could trace most of that. But it is not the “SUITS” idea so it will possible not fly. There is a Peacekeeper group in Beamsville Ontario.
