Rideau Canal Skateway
Now open from the NAC to Bank St!
The Rideau Canal — designated as a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Site — becomes the world’s largest skating rink every winter! From about mid-January to the end of February, this historic route is transformed into a 7.8-kilometre skating rink. Romantic strolls, exciting outings for the children and a festive atmosphere… Grab your skates and get ready for an unforgettable experience!
On weekends, from February 5 to 21, the Rideau Canal Skateway becomes the main activity site for Winterlude, Canada’s winter celebration!
Urban Art
To mark the 40th season of skating on the Rideau Canal, visit Dows Gallery at Dows Lake. Young local artists share their vision of the Rideau Canal Skateway through the medium of graffiti art. (Starting February 1st)
Mark Saturday, January 30 on your calendar! Come and cheer on the Ottawa Senators alumni during Hockey Day in Canada, on Patterson Creek. Skating lessons will also be offered to new Canadians. This national event will take place between noon and 2 pm.
